Throughout the early part of 2003 rumors abounded that KISS would be touring during the summer with fellow legends Aerosmith. Aerosmith and KISS shared a similar status in American popular culture as two distinctive bands who set the standard for American rock in the 1970s. The teaming of the two bands for a co-headlining 2003 tour was nothing short of astounding. Having seldom crossed paths on the road, since 1974, there was a certain appeal to packaging the two acts together. Both bands have rabid followings; particularly of what are considered each band's "classic" eras. Aerosmith's classic era lasted from 1972–9 and KISS' 1973–80.
